Wind Load
TCT&A Industries Solair retractable awnings
are manufactured to the highest quality industry stands possible.
TCT&A Industries is a 75-year-old company and we did not
reach this status by misleading our clients with information
that is not factual or reasonable.
Other companies may state
that their retractable awnings have been tested to withstand
winds up to 40 miles per hour or more. Where and under what
conditions were they tested? Was it in a wind tunnel? At how
many different
angles? Was each test duplicated with rain? How many different
structures were the awnings attached to and how? Ask them these
questions
and we suggest they cannot give written documentation as to
the test results nor the reasons they do not have them. They
may have
performed the tests done on one installation, structure, or
set of conditions. Will they be the same conditions as yours?
The Somfy wind sensor (used in 90% of the motors
and wind system controls) does not
exceed 31 MPH. It is reasonable to think that in winds over
31
MPH, your
awning should not be extended. Since this is a do-it-yourself
project, TCT&A Industries suggests that when winds reach
22 MPH, you consider retracting your awning. TCT&A Industries
offers this information as a guide and accepts no responsibility
and/or liability as to the how much wind our Solair retractable
awning will accept.
